Sony Planning Kraven And Mysterio Spider-Man Spin-Offs

Even more Spidey adjuncts?

If you're Kevin Feige right now and you're looking at the possibilities for Spider-Man: Homecoming's sequel, you might be slightly put out by the fact that Sony seem to be furiously trying to keep all the best villains for themselves.

We already know that Venom is getting his own stand-alone, starring Tom Hardy - with the links to the MCU confused by Feige's insistence that there's no relationship and Amy Pascal's suggestion that there sort of is - and now it seems Sony want to make Mysterio and Kraven The Hunter movies too.

THR have published an extensive piece on Sony chairman Tom Rothman, focused on Sony's expanded plans for the Spidey spinoffs. In there - almost casually - is mention that the two classic villains are lined up as potential spin-offs following Venom (and Carnage), and Black Cat and Silver Sable.

It's an interesting idea to build a universe of individual villain films, but in every case, it's going to feel like Spider-Man is missing. And while it all might lead to a Sinister Six movie and an appearance by Spider-Man, you have to question whether Kraven is as interesting if he's not hunting his greatest prey. Or whether Mysterio works alone.

Still, if this leads to us finally seeing the pair on screen, it's no bad thing. It just might take some work to convince that they should exist in stand-alone - non-Spider-Man - form. Or maybe Sony should just bring in Miles Morales and have done with it.
