Spider-Man: Homecoming - What Does The Ending Really Mean?

3. Adrian Toomes Is Locked Away (But He Knows Too)

When the trailers needlessly revealed that Peter and Toomes' final fight would see Peter unmasked, it looked a fairly safe bet that Vulture was going to be killed off to protect Peter's identity in the long run.

Rather stunningly, he isn't killed - neither by accident or by Peter's hand - which obviously fits Peter's traditional non-lethal manifesto, but also leaves a pretty big loose end out there.

Sure, Toomes subsequently seems to prove that he's not going to tell, presumably because Peter saved Liz's life and his own, but we also already know that there are rumours in the criminal world that he knows the valuable truth about Spider-Man's identity. Surely that means he has to return for the sequel (even just for a cameo), or end up killed off off-screen? There's no way Marvel can be that casual about a secret-keeping villain being out there.
