Spider-Man: Ranking The Movie Suits From Worst To Best

Maguire V Garfield V Holland.

In the 50-odd years since his creation, Spider-Man has become one of the most recognisable superheroes in the world. There's a lot of reasons why, but principal amongst them is his iconic suit - one of the greatest designs in comic book history. The character might have donned different threads now and again throughout the decades (e.g. his red and gold Iron Spider get-up or the Secret Wars black suit) but he always reverts to that classic red and blue spandex. It is little surprise then that the five (soon to be six) cinematic adaptations of the character that have appeared over the last fifteen years have not moved away from that classic design first worked on by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. However, they have all put their own spin on Spidey€™s look and, thankfully, each of them has their own merits. As of yet, Spider-Man has not sunk to the nadir of the moulded nipples and oversized codpieces from Batman & Robin. So now that Tom Holland€™s duds in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War have been revealed, it's time to take a look at the previous Spidey suits we have seen on the big screen and decide, once and for all, which is best.

Honourable Mention...

The Amazing Spider-Man (1977)

Before we begin, it wouldn't be right to ignore the first proper live-action adaptation of the webhead - The Amazing Spider-Man TV movie from 1977. If you think it is odd that you've (probably) never heard of this movie - unlike the still-remembered 1960s cartoon show - then its probably because Spidey fans have been trying to deny its existence ever since. The movie was a pilot for a TV series which lasted for 13 episodes before being plugged. Fans at the time bayed for its blood, largely because of the absence of any comic book storylines or supervillains. Even Stan Lee hated it! To be fair to the movie, though, its Spider-Man suit isn't too bad, considering the time period and the budget they had to work with. The spider on the chest is awful, however. It's less like a powerful symbol of a kickass superhero and more like an illustration from a children's book. It looks more like an ant than a spider, for crying out loud!
