Spider-Man Stand-Alone: Director Refuses To Rule Out Miles Morales Appearance

Could both Spidey's appear?

After months of speculation that the new Spider-Man stand-alone might swerve the inevitable trajectory and focus on Miles Morales rather than Peter Parker, Marvel and Sony deferred to type, casting Tom Holland for the latest attempt at Parker. But that doesn't mean it's the end of the road for Morales, necessarily. When Yahoo! UK asked director Jon Watts whether fans ever got close to seeing him in the new stand-alone as the lead character, he was oddly evasive:
€œI can€™t talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much. We€™re still writing the story€we haven€™t finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows.€
Don't take that as a confirmation obviously, but crucially it's not a denial either. There have been some rumours that Morales will be brought into the universe alongside Parker for a multiple Spider-Man vehicle, or at least to be a supporting character in Parker's world. Even if he doesn't yet turn into Spider-Man, that would be a smart move. Frankly, Sony have missed something of a trick with this new casting. What they should have done is bring back Toby Maguire for Civil War, and used his established profile as Spider-Man to recapture the epic unmasking moment, and then realise that it was a terrible idea because it immediately makes his family a target. The stand-alone could then have been Parker passing the torch to Morales. Not only would that have been compelling, it would have been new, which is precisely what Sony need with this new Spidey. Retreading old ground can only get you so far, even if you keep making Parker younger every time you recast. The untitled Spider-Man reboot is set for release on July 28th, 2017 after Holland first appears as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in Civil War.
