Paramount have announced a June 29th 2012 release date for the next Star Trek voyage, which may or may not be directed by J.J. Abrams.

The currently untitled sequel will be written by the same team that brought you last year’s event movie of the summer PLUS the addition of Lost’s Damon Lindelof, who is making it a trifecta this time round.

Right now, we think Abrams will return to the captain’s chair for one more. He seemed to have fun with the first one and I think he’s definitely got the enthusiasm for a sequel. He’ll probably wanna go more epic this time, have a little bit of fun with a more dominating villain/scenario and probably go slightly Empire Strikes Back on the franchise.

So far 2012 is shaping up as thus…

May 4th – The Avengers

May 25th – Madagascar 3

June 29th – Star Trek 2

And somewhere…

Wolverine 2

And potentially the following that are likely to be aiming for that summer…

Batman 3

Spider-Man 4 (if as expected it’s delayed by 12 months)

Pixar’s Newt

Plus another movie from the Marvel universe. Potentially Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, a third Iron Man movie or even Dr. Strange, perhaps?

And more movies TBA, of course.
