Star Trek 3: Rating 10 Candidates To Direct

Star Trek Into Darkness Enterprise damaged Star Trek Into Darkness has had a killer week at the box office and it is no surprise that people are beginning to talk about Star Trek 3. But before Paramount move ahead with that, there is the small matter of trying to figure out who is going to direct the next in the series now that JJ Abrams has jumped ship over to Star Wars Episode 7, which is due to go into production some time next year. With momentum on their side, Paramount want to make sure that there isn't another 4 year gap between Star Treks so talk about who could possible direct the next film is hot amongst forums. I am going to take 10 names that I have seen thrown around by fans as possible suitors to bring the crew back to the big screen. Some are irrational and others are much more suitable and I will be considering who is really the most likely director of the next film. While this is by no means a complete list, these are the names I see coming up most frequently in the discussion. There are directors who I think are more likely to take over the film, such as Drew Goddard and Bob Orci who I think could well take over the project, that just haven't been part of the discussions that I have seen. So sit back in 'the' chair and I will walk you through the logical considerations of who could take over Paramount's crowning jewell.

10. Gareth Edwards

garethedwards600 It was a toss up whether to add Gareth Edwards or Colin Trevorrow, but I went with Gareth Edwards by proxy because he is currently shooting his big giant lizard film while Trevorrow's big giant lizard film is on hold at the moment. Gareth Edwards burst onto the scene with his micro-blockbuster Monsters and was quickly snapped up to direct Godzilla which is currently shooting. Edwards is a smart Sci-fi filmmaker and undoubtedly has a rising star in the industry. He has started getting his name on some big shortlists and Godzilla is one of my most anticipated films of the coming years. However, with that in mind. It is just not certain if he is quite ready to be thrown into the Star Trek equation just yet. Star Trek is Paramount's crown jewell, and it is just not clear yet of they would trust the keys of the porsche to the new guy. Godzilla could of course change all that, but that is not due til next summer. Even, by the time the film is put together and executives can see it, I am sure Paramount would like to have a director on board before then. There is just nothing there to suggest to Paramount he is the best choice. Even if I have close to full faith in the guy to really blow people away with Godzilla. Pros: Currently directing Godzilla, Sci-fi pedigree, Exciting new director Cons: Unproven with a massive budget, Not enough success to keep convince Paramount, Nothing suggests he would do a great Trek movie Grade: D
