With recent rumours that Yoda, Boba Fett and a young Han Solo could all be receiving their own spin-off films, it’s hard not to daydream about all of the other classic Star Wars characters who deserve their own movie. After all, George Lucas’ Star Wars universe is teeming with hoards of complex characters ranging in species, origins and the no-doubt illustrious stories they are capable of telling.
It’s clear that Disney is now milking the franchise for all it’s worth, but as Star Wars fans, it’s difficult not to become excited by the possibilities this new ownership can offer.
With the amount of content in the expanded universe, it’s easy to forget that only six live-action films exist. These six films have spanned across approximately 12 hours, leaving little room for characters who weren’t essential to the main saga of the Skywalker family.
With Disney’s purchase, however, the opportunity for exploration of these previous bit roles or fictional characters invented entirely outside of the film canon has been opened up and the next decade or so could be littered with fantastic tales of the characters we once knew nothing about.
The problem that comes with this, though, is the unenviable question of which characters to pick. With so many capable of having their own movie – and each followed by massive fan-bases – whomever they decide to base a spin-off around will likely cause squeals of joy and sighs of frustration.
The next 10 classic characters are only the most prominent of those who Disney should and could make spin-offs for. The characters range across all six films and I have assumed their expanded-universe adventures will unfortunately be ignored by any future filmmakers. So, without further ado, let’s go to it….

i still think how solo met chewy, how they upset jabba and the involvement of boba and the bounty hunters is the best bet at a standalone movie.
han and boba were by far the most popular characters from the original films.
I too think that’s a pretty great bet for a brilliant standalone movie. A movie which could combine the origins of Han, Chewbacca, Jabba and Boba would be pretty fantastic idea and a great tie-in to the original trilogy.
Basically this article can be summed up as “why don’t they make movies out of all the Expanded Universe stuff”.
And the answer to that is that is just isn’t very good.
I’m actually not a very big fan of the EU myself – I have only read the odd book here and there. I agree with you though that the new movies perhaps shouldn’t stick to the EU stuff; it’s all quite convoluted and in some cases isn’t very good. Naturally, the characters I picked have a lot of background already painted by the EU, but I tried to assume that the filmmakers will ignore this and go their own way with any future spin-off films.
Thanks for replying!
for me it’d be:
1. a han solo / chewbacca movie about how they upset jabba and boba fett (with fett as the main villain).
2. a darth maul movie set just before the phantom menace and showing us his training under palpatine.
3. a palpatine movie (with darth plagueis as his master) so we see how he has molded into the sith master by plagueis and took over from him after killing him.
Why doesn’t Disney just release a statement which reads:
We are doing episodes 7/8/9
Then we are gonna do another 3 films. They will be…
Episodes 1/2/3
Those other ones no longer count. Please burn any copies of these you have on DVD/Bluray
Lando Calrissian, the man whom Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from. How he got the Falcon and his time with it is covered in the old school SW novels from the 1980s, The Lando Carlissian Adventures. The three books combined can form one or two film with room for extra things to be added. Also his companion from those tales, Vuffi Raa, would become another lovable droid character.
