Star Wars: 10 Ways The Last Jedi Gets Better On Second Watch

8. General Hux Development

The Last Jedi took the unorthodox step of really hammering home some comedy. Sure, Star Wars films had had their moments in the past, with the original trilogy also packed full of amusing moments. But this felt so very different, and so very Disney, and some fans found this a bit too much to take. It’s Star Wars, not Marvel.

In particular, they had issues with General Hux. In the Force Awakens he was extremely Grand Moff Tarkin-esque, keeping a leash on Kylo and boasting an aura of control about him. Yet in The Last Jedi he is reduced to a snivelling wreck, thrown face-first onto the floor of a Star Destroyer by a hologram Snoke and later being choked mid-sentence by Ben Solo as he mourns Snokes death.

Both scenes are genuinely funny and, ahead of Episode 9, have added intrigue to Hux. He was at his lowest ebb in The Last Jedi and fans can appreciate that more upon second watch, and note what it means for the next instalment. Expect Domhnall Gleeson’s character to be back with a bang.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
