Star Wars: 9 Things All Original And Prequel Trilogy Fans Agree On

8. Lightsabers Are Awesome

In spite of the recent controversy regarding the impracticality of a lightsaber with a cross guard, the physics-defying nature of the Jedi sword is undisputedly awesome. In general, the lightsaber has not been without its controversy as new designs always seem to be faced with purist scrutiny. Lest we forget way back in 1983, Luke’s green lightsaber in Return of the Jedi was received with mix reviews. In just a few years, it was already established sacrilege to consider a lightsaber capable of more than two colors: red or blue.

As new designs and new colors followed, the Star Wars community continued to be split. But the line drawn was not between original and prequel trilogy fans. Whether it’s the first lightsaber from the original or Darth Maul’s two-sided bo staff, the impassioned arguments on both sides transcend the generation gap and reflect the fact we all have a warm place in our hearts for this elegant weapon.

The lightsaber's iconic sounds and look not only transcend both trilogies, they actually transcend the movies themselves. People who haven't seen Star Wars immediately know and understand to some degree what they’re looking at when exposed to the lightsaber's graceful imagery. Whether you know about crystals and Kunda stones or refer to it simply as a “lazor sword,” the lightsaber is a globally recognized concept experienced beyond the big screen in the form of toys and props for both children and adults alike.
