Revenge of the Sith is easily the best of the prequels. Granted, this isn’t a particularly remarkable statement given the quality of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, but there’s still plenty to praise in Episode III.

In contrast to the poor dialogue in the first two prequels, the screenplay – whilst still far from perfect – is far more satisfactory. Even the romance scenes between Anakin and Padmé aren’t too painful to watch.

The CGI is also much better in Episode III. Though it would have been nice to have seen more actual sets, the visuals have held up much better when compared to the other prequels.

What makes this Star Wars film truly unique, however, is the dark tone. Indeed, the scene in which the Jedi are betrayed by the clone troopers is genuinely moving.

The latter stages of the film also feature one of the greatest confrontations in the whole saga – the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Sure, it goes on for a bit too long, but the choreography and the music are both terrific throughout.

As such, Revenge of the Sith rightly deserves its reputation as the best prequel even if it doesn't come close to the standard of the original trilogy.
