Star Wars: Han Solo Directors Almost Made Rogue One Cameos

Lord Miller Rogue One

As part of their panel dedicated to the forthcoming Han Solo spin-off movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller dropped a bunch of interesting details about the audition process that ultimately saw Alden Ehrenreich cast as the young scoundrel.

Included in their panel was the revelation that a mighty 3000 actors auditioned for the role - the first being Ehrenreich apparently, though that seems awfully romantic - and that he auditioned in the Millennium Falcon alongside Chewbacca. They also revealed that shooting will be at Pinewood Studios in the UK and will begin in late January or early February using much of the same crew from Rogue One and Episode VIII.

Intriguingly, it was also revealed that the directors were planned to have cameos in Rogue One, continuing the grand tradition of film-makers appearing in Star Wars films. They even got into costume on set, but a school interview that Miller had to attend for his son infringed on the schedule and the scene was never shot. They did, however, get captured in costume...

Meanwhile, it turns out that the Rogue One appearance would have been Miller's SECOND Star Wars cameo. He actually also appeared as a stormtrooper in The Empire Strikers Back special edition release when he was interning at ILM. He defied his paymasters by having a few photos taken in costume...
