That's no moon...

And with that, the world realises that there absolutely IS a need for a Star Wars spin-off that explains how the Rebellion snaffled the Death Star plans from under the noses of the burgeoning Empire. Because believe it or not, some people apparently weren't all that convinced, even with Gareth Edwards directing, a hugely impressive cast and the promise of a heart-stopping heist.

Now that the first exceptional trailer for this year's Star Wars Anthology film has landed, expectation levels are now set to incredible heights. That's without Darth Vader, without Mads Mikkelsen's reveal, without the Force and without a Force Awakens-like cute droid love-in.

To say the film looks great should go without saying; it's brooding, dark and promises major threat and major drama. There's also likely to be a major death count, devastating emotional strikes and an incredible finale. And rather excitingly, it's all going to play out against the backdrop of a beautifully realised, on-point aesthetic that looks positively drenched in the identity and spirit of the original trilogy.

The trailer inevitably poses some major questions, but for the first time it also fleshes out the bones of the concept that we've known for a while. So, what exactly did we learn about the plot?

13. There's Always A Loner Kid

Because this is Star Wars and everything rhymes, new hero Jyn Erso is another orphan of sorts: according to the voice over track, she grew up on her own from the age of fifteen (let's assume her parents are dead, just to avoid another situation where parental secrets are hanging over everything).

But instead of the American Pie niceness of Luke, the precocious nerdiness of Anakin or the inherent holiness of Rey, Jyn appears to be a bit of a bitch. She's got her own rules, her own extreme methods and the hint of a compelling back-story that makes her exactly the kind of person to run towards a Death Star instead of away from it.

There are hints that she's a Han Solo type, rather than a Luke Skywalker, and that she has as much of a problem with authority on her own side as she does with the Empire.
