Star Wars Sequels: 11 Huge Surprises That Could Still Happen

The Star Wars hype is dead. Long live the Star Wars hype.

The hype-train for The Force Awakens is finally slowing down, ready to make its final stop, but you'd be foolish for thinking it ended there when it comes to a galaxy far, far away, and a bigger fool for following that line of thinking and not getting aboard for the next few years of films. The calendar is full for Star Wars fans: there's Rogue One this year, Episode VIII the next. Then there'll be an as-yet-unconfirmed spin-off (Boba Fett? Obi-Wan? Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes?), before the new trilogy comes to a close with Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX. Even after all of that, you can bet it won't be long before the confirmation of Episodes X-XII, more spin-offs, and probably a TV series or two. There's already been a big hint of that from Disney. For all the talk of Anthology films and spin-offs, it's the main trilogy that really counts. The other of course provide the potential for a lot of fun (Miller and Lord doing a Star Wars movie!), but the meat of the story going forward lies with Episodes VIII and IX. And while The Force Awakens heavily rhymed with tA New Hope, it still had surprises up its sleeve for most of the audience: Han's death, Snoke's appearance, Rey vs Kylo Ren. In that respect there's still massive potential for surprises throughout the rest of the trilogy. We know there will be spaceship battles, lightsaber fights, and Skywalker stories, but that doesn't mean Lucasfilm haven't got a number of curveballs lined up.
