12. Who Was Snoke?

The Question: Though it seemed likely that The Last Jedi and Episode IX would delve deep into Supreme Leader Snoke's origins, the fact he's murdered by Kylo Ren half-way through the movie pretty much put the instant kibosh on that.

So, who the hell was Snoke anyway? Was he really Darth Plagueis, as so many fans desperately wanted to believe?

The Likely Answer: Though Snoke has clearly been through some intense warfare in the past, what with his Supremely disfigured face, Rian Johnson's hilarious, out-of-nowhere killing of the supervillain seems to suggest that the filmmaker doesn't really care about Snoke's origins, and thinks you shouldn't either.

As compelling as the physical evidence is that Snoke was indeed Darth Sidious' master Plagueis, the lack of a big reveal in this regard prior to Snoke's death convincingly suggests otherwise.

Snoke is obviously incredibly old and has a hankering for power, so could he in fact be some sort of secret disciple of Sidious, rather than his master? This one's a real crap shoot, and unfortunately, it's unlikely to ever be answered once and for all.
