I only know one truth: The Last Jedi is shaping up to be utterly incredible.
After J.J. Abrams brought the franchise back to life with The Force Awakens, Episode VIII has a rather different task on its hands, being charged with taking things forward in weirder, darker, and more original ways.
Everything we've seen or heard so far bodes extremely well. In Rian Johnson, the movie has a singular visionary talent as both writer and director. Its already stacked cast has added some great talent in Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern, along with exciting newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, and we'll be seeing a lot more of Mark Hamill this time around (although that's not hard, comparatively speaking). Meanwhile, the story is shaping up to pull various strands together to create something rather unlike anything we've seen before.
Because of that, plus the unanswered questions from The Force Awakens and the veil of secrecy that surrounds everything Star Wars related, there's a lot we don't know about the movie at this stage. That's not a complaint, when so many franchises are happy to spill their secrets, but it does mean there are a lot of questions we need answers to, even if they won't arrive until mid-December.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
