Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Will Snoke Turn Rey To The Dark Side?

Kylo Ren's Redemption

Adding a wrinkle to all of this is Kylo Ren. He's going to be a big part of not only The Last Jedi, but Episode IX as well. If Rey were to go over to the Dark Side, then what happens to him? Since he's going to be in the trilogy-closer, it's not like Snoke could easily just discard him, after all.

Rey and Kylo Ren both working for Snoke feels like too large a stretch, since it'd put all the most powerful characters (outside of Luke) on the same side, and leave less room to diversify their arcs. But, after killing Han Solo, many consider Kylo to be irredeemable. We've seen villains come back from heinous acts before, but not after murdering one of the saga's most beloved and iconic figures (Obi-Wan grew to be that in time, but his death came in the very first movie).

Still, you'd expect Leia, at the very least, would try. She's lost Han, and all but lost Luke too; Ben is what she has left of her family. The trailer teases a big moment between mother and son, and if there's anything that could pull Ben back at this stage, it's his mother's love (as we've seen variations on the importance of this of across fiction, especially within the fantasy realm).

That, then, would lead to a scenario where the villain and hero switch sides, which would be an even bigger surprise than just Rey turning 'bad', and could take each character into fascinating new directions. And yet, the result could be something bigger than that, and gets around the unlikelihood of Disney turning their female hero into a villain.
