Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Final Trailer Review - 8 Ups & 5 Downs

7. The Emperor Remains A Tease

With this being the final trailer, there surely must have been some temptation to roll out the biggest of the big guns by focusing on Emperor Palpatine's return and his increased importance in the story. That would, at the very least, have reminded everyone that Snoke really didn't matter at all...

But to do that would have a cynical grab for attention without consideration for the sanctity of the story. It would have been spoiling for the sake of talking points in the trailer and crucially, this film really didn't need it - look at the pre-sale figures and the speed of ticket sales for the opening night: it's already an event movie. It didn't need the added boost.

So, in that regard, it's excellent to see that Palpatine's presence is limited. We see his throne room on the destroyed Death Star and very briefly we see him seemingly riding some sort of mechanical/animal vehicle as he comes face-to-face with Rey, but beyond him talking, that's it. And that's as it should be.

As long as it's not a giant mechanical spider, anyway.
