Steven Spielberg directing ROBOPOCALYPSE next!

Steven Spielberg has once again, for reasons only he truly knows (though I have my suspicions) resisted the chance of making the Abraham Lincoln biopic he's been promising all decade. This time he's bumped it for a mega budget, super charged, effects heavy, robot revolution movie titled 'Robopocalypse'. A Robbo-poco-Transformers replica-Hardly T2-Sell Out - what? Would the Spielberg of 1985 ever of had anything to do with an unpronounceable book title that so desperately is trying to sound hip? It'll be based on Daniel H. Wilson's Summer 2011 published novel that Drew Goddard ('Cloverfield') has drafted depicting the oft-told story of what happens when robots wage a war against humans. I would like to think Spielberg will go a new direction with this, do a 'Close Encounters'-style genre left turn, but the Spielberg of 2010 is all about the merchandise deals, the franchises and what the kids can eat up. I blame the time spent with Lucas and Bay for this. I look at my copy of 'Minority Report' on the Blu-ray shelf above my computer and sigh. Filming on 'I Robot: Judgment Day' 'Robopocalypse' begins in January 2012, for a release in 2013 at Disney. Spielberg is currently filming his WWI drama 'The War Horse' that opens Dec. 28th, 2011 - just five days after 'Tintin'. Surely that'll change?
