Suicide Squad 2: Casting James Gunn's DCEU Sequel

How about Dave Bautista as Solomon Grundy?

In a move that has the potential to completely reinvigorate the Suicide Squad movie series, James Gunn is in talks to write and direct the follow-up to David Ayer's divisive first film. News suggests that he's being given free reign to relaunch the film, but the fact that it's still being called Suicide Squad 2 suggests there will be some sort of continuity. The logical assumption is that that will come in the shape of the cast.

Not everyone can make the cut and sadly, there can't be many people out there who care about Joel Kinnamon's Rick Flag and even fewer who want a return for Cara Delevigne's Enchantress, so let's just say they went off and got married somewhere quietly, retiring to whisper sweet nothings to each other.

Naturally, though, some of the big faces from the first movie will HAVE to return and they're bound to be joined by some exciting new additions too. But who will return and who will play the new breed?

13. Jared Leto - The Joker

No matter how much criticism he received for his lack of restraint (and some worrying set behaviour), Jared Leto's Joker has unfinished business in what was once called the DCEU.

The real problem with him in Suicide Squad came down to the film-makers: David Ayer didn't keep Leto on enough of a leash and then the studio essentially just edited out most of his performance. Everything that might have been interesting ended up on the cutting room floor and he ended up just being a grotesque glorified cameo.

Bringing him back - which looks inevitable in at least one film - would be a smart move and allowing James Gunn to channel Leto's weirdness but giving him more focus would be good for the character. He could even get to be the main villain this time rather than playing second fiddle to a dancing girl and her CGI goon.
