Terminator: Dark Fate: 6 Things It MUST Do To Be A Good Sequel

5. Emphasise The Humanity Of Humans And Machines Alike

The first two Terminator films, had desperate, greasy and emotionally frazzled human characters, with the odds firmly stacked against them. impossible challenges were overcome, histories were changed, ruthless cyborgs learned to love and mercury-comprised villains began to enjoy their job a little too much.

For countless examples, films of this design have missed the point by removing the humanity from both the humans and machines alike. And none were more guilty of this than many of the Terminator follow-ups. When the character traits of Terminators 1 and 2 stand the test of time after all these years, there's really no excuse for this basic rule to be overlooked in 2019's Dark Fate.

With at least two new characters introduced in this movie, there is hope at least that some interesting new personalities will join the fray. As good science fiction has always told us, whether they are flesh and blood or AI and circuitry, is only partly relevant. The chance of Dark Fate becoming a superior model to the other flawed attempts rests largely on these new people being people, for better or worse.
