Terminator Genisys: 10 Reasons It Could Surprise Everyone

Hasta La Vista, Franchise?

Terminator Salvation sucked, there’s no two ways about it. Its poor story, boring characters, and unimpressive effects nearly killed the series. With that bad taste still fresh in our mouths, the trailers for Terminator Genisys have lead many to believe that the unwarranted reboot/sequel could follow this trend and be the final nail in the coffin to the once-beloved franchise.

There’s no denying that the whole premise of the film is shaky or that it’s fundamentally a cynical extension of a franchise that should have stopped two movies ago or that the title is a new level of stupid, but Genisys can’t possibly be worse than Salvation, and it can’t possibly be as bad as we’re assuming it will be. If anything, its poor predecessor and the lowered level of expectations could actually allow the film to only require a modicum of quality in order to breathe new life into the property.

Crazier franchise reboots have happened, and we live in an age full of surprisingly-successful sequels- look no further than the success of Jurassic World or Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes as examples that Genisys could work.

It’s understandable if people are approaching Terminator Genisys with a healthy amount of skepticism and dubiousness, but we can still cross our fingers while realising that there are more than a few reasons why the film could prove everybody wrong.

10. He's Back

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to acting has been met with a lot less fanfare than expected. He’s turned in some solid performances in The Last Stand and Maggie, but he hasn’t really had a bonafide hit since his comeback from politics. To rectify that void, Schwarzenegger is back in the role that made him famous.

Other than simply getting fans excited, his return adds a certain legitimacy to this film that the previous one lacked. Furthermore, his involvement allows for all of the mind-bending time travel stories this film looks to have planned, which never could have worked without his older self in the picture.

On that note, what’s most interesting about his return is that the real life actor is influencing the character. With Arnold being much older, so too is the Terminator now a grizzled, aged version of the thing we knew from its prime. It’s making the character fresh while still keeping him familiar at the same time, which could be rather symbolic of the film.
