You’ve probably already heard that the mighty Joss Whedon has already signed on to write and direct the extremely anticipated Marvel sequel, The Avengers 2.
Today, Marvel went a step further and officially announced that The Avengers 2 will hit our screens on 1st of May, 2015. There’s been speculation virtually from the moment the sequel was announced that Avengers 2 would hit our screens around similar time frame to the first Avengers movie but it was the year we didn’t know for sure, but now we do.
In the announcement, Marvel also teased that the sequel might be titled something more interesting than simply ‘The Avengers 2′;
The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015.
It’s been all the ‘May’s’ so far for Marvel movie releases; with Iron Man dropping early in May 2008, Iron Man 2 coming in May 2 years later, Thor also landing in May the very next year and Captain America coming to us slightly later, in July of the same year. Anyone with a knack for recognising a pattern could have speculated on an early May Avengers 2 release, but now we can officially mark the date in our calendars.
Avengers 2 will see a return for all of our old favourites; Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye. We’ll also undoubtedly see Whedon incorporate story and characters from Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and possibly even Edgar Wright’s upcoming Ant-Man.
We’re excited about the road to The Avengers 2. If it was anything like the lead up to its predecessor then hold on to your superhero envy; we’re in for a helluva ride.

Cap 2 is out in April
Not July
Now we’ll have to wait and see who’s going to be the new Tony Stark for that movie.
