The Baby Hitler Joke That Was Too Outrageous For Deadpool 2

So that's where they draw the line then...?

Watching Deadpool 2, it's easy to think that there's nothing the Merc With A Mouth won't say. His hard-hitting, hilarious sequel takes in joking about death, prison rape, "anal birth", aggressive sex with midget redheads, cancer and everything in between, after all. So there can't be much that was off the table.

Well, there was SOMETHING they wouldn't joke about, apparently, as confirmed by writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who have revealed that they almost included a scene of Deadpool killing Baby Hitler, before deciding that it would be too much.

When Deadpool discovers Cable has the power to timetravel, he demands to know why he didn't just go back in time to when Russell was a baby and deal with him then so it was easier, or better yet why he didn't go back and kill Baby Hitler and make the world a better place.

Later, that was clearly supposed to pay off, as the mid-credits sequences see 'Pool using the time travel device himself to right some wrongs - saving Vanessa and Peter from unnecessary deaths, killing off the X-Men Origins' version of Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds himself to stop him making Green Lantern. It's a very funny sequence, but the plan was to pay-off that Baby Hitler joke, until they lost their nerve.

Speaking to ComicBook.com at the premiere of Deadpool 2 in New York City, Deadpool was supposed to travel back in time to smother the future Nazi leader. as Wernick confirmed:

"It's true. I think it was cut just because, it was at the very, very end, and it left the audience with this, 'Oh?' It's like, 'Sure, it's baby Hitler, but it is a baby. It's kind of weird to watch that!... We are Deadpool but there is a line we can't cross."

Reese also stated that "Baby killing might be that line." Good to know that there is one.

The writers also revealed they almost made Deadpool a father but "didn't get very far down the path" despite him having a daughter in the comics. And given how much is already in there, they probably did the right thing in showing a little restraint. There's always future sequels, now that Vanessa is back...
