The Batman: Ben Affleck DOES Still Want To Play The Dark Knight

You put your Batman in, your Batman out...

If you had June as the next time we'd all be talking about Ben Affleck's future as Batman, you've just won a bingo. Congratulations, collect your prize from the desk.

After what feels like actual decades of speculation about whether he'll even star in Matt Reeves' The Batman after Justice League slumped into cinemas disappointingly, it looks like we're currently at the Affleck wants in stage of the cycle once more.

A new rumour suggests that the actor actually does want to continue to appear in DCEU movies as the Dark Knight. This is despite rumours that Matt Reeves doesn't want him in his stand-alone and that Affleck himself was losing interest after he dropped out of directing and writing duties. So maybe he's not looking for a way to "segue" out of the role, then...?

This rumour comes courtesy of Twitter user DanielRPK - apparently a writer based in LA, whose follower base suggests he's one of those influencer types. He says that Ben Affleck still wants to stay in the role and he has got some things right in the past, so it's worth taking note, even if it's with a liberal dusting of salt.

Quite how the land lies with the future of the DCEU remains to be seen at this stage, with rumours of flux behind the scenes, but we'll presumably see more at Comic Con, whose rumoured DC line-up looks like this (DanielRPK has said he expects exactly this)...

But even if the DCEU is partially put on ice, there's no way The Batman won't be going ahead. Batman is too much of a big brand for Warner Bros for him not to get his own project, and it may simply be that they go with something more stand-alone and away from the DCEU, which would allow Reeves to have his own Batman.

And that way, if Affleck wants to be the Justice League Batman in that timeline, then he's fine to do so. Just don't expect this to be the last time someone mentions Affleck not wanting to continue or definitely actually wanting to continue. Until a Batman film actually comes out with his face in it, it's bound to inspire a lot of speculation.
