The Batman: Casey Affleck Says Ben Affleck Isn’t Doing It

Brotherly banter or an accidental confirmation?

Bad news, Batfleck fans, it sounds like Ben Affleck isn't actually doing The Batman after all. That's according to his brother Casey Affleck at least.

Despite the fact that Affleck denied the fact that he's out as recently as at SDCC, Casey spoke to WEEI Sports Radio while promoting A Ghost Story and very much hinted that we won't get to see him in the hotly anticipated stand-alone.

“I thought he was an OK Batman. No, I thought he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say. Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.”

Obviously the "making that up" caveat is a big deal, but it won't be firm enough to stop all speculation, because of the nature of the delivery. He seems to add the comment when he gets the reaction, as if as a self-preservation technique. Then again, the Internet does have a habit of finding meaning where there is none, and Casey might simply be playing with the hosts.

Quite why he'd do that - while showing no real outward signs of spinning mischief - is anyone's guess. Here's the video...

If this turns out to be the case, Warner Bros and Affleck will presumably be less than delighted with the way it's come out, particularly as the SDCC rebuttal seemed to have been the final confirmation that he was definitely coming back. Whatever the case, it's an interesting development in a very intriguing story.
