The Batman: Josh Gad Isn't The Penguin (But He Wants To Be)

Stop getting over-excited.

Not so long ago, Frozen and Beauty & The Beast star Josh Gad set tongues wagging across social media by suggesting that he might have been cast as The Penguin for Matt Reeves' The Batman. Inevitably, him posting a picture was taken as a solid confirmation, despite the fact that it was just another step in him publicly talking about his interest in the role.

Now, he's confirmed to MTV that he hasn't actually been cast and that he was "just having some fun" and "there's nothing there" of of substance in the rumours. Interestingly, he once again refuses to rule out the possibility of playing the character. He's clearly got an itch he needs to scratch:

"I would absolutely be open to playing the Penguin in the Batman movie. There’s nothing more we need to talk about. We’ll see."

But will Warner Bros pay any attention? They'd be silly not to bring him in for a conversation at least, given how popular the suggestion of him playing Cobblepot seemed to be.

Occasionally, that sort of public flirtation with a studio actually works. Channing Tatum might not end up playing Gambit - given the film's current production issues - but he was cast after he expressed interest in interviews, and Donald Glover was hired in Spider-Man: Homecoming after talking himself up as Spidey for years.
