Warning: There are some spoilers below – please bear that in mind before reading.
There is no doubt The Dark Knight Rises will go down in history as one of the biggest films of this or any year – a mega box-office return is assured, and with a 9.0 review rating on IMDB, and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems the majority of those who have seen it so far loved it. And director Christopher Nolan did make a bold and entertaining statement film – an epic movie experience whose scale and scope was admirable and whose finest moments will surely rank extremely high on the list of best film sequences ever made.
But the film was far from flawless, and unfortunately, the trilogy-ender was not universally loved, with both critics and fans expressing disappointment with certain elements – islands of criticism in an otherwise postive landscape of reviews. Those responses could otherwise be cast aside as the inevitable, provocative response to any major film if it weren’t for the fact that the same critical points seem to appear in many of the reviews – lack of development, less than assured editing, and some gaping plot-holes.
It is clear that those who express doubts about the film are opening themselves up to a barrage of negative feedback – inane accusations of “fanboy” fervour (as if being a fan and having passion and expectations is somehow wrong or worthy of derision), but as long as there are those of us who weren’t wholly satisfied by the film, there will be an opportunity to talk about those disappointments.
My own chief problem with the film was the lack of finesse in story and character development that left some gaping plot-holes, and meant certain characters ended up disappearing into the background. Too many balls in the air, and not enough concern for where some of them landed. That doesn’t mean the film was terrible by any means, but it certainly had some glaring problems, as I spoke about in my own extensive analysis of it.
But what do you think was Christopher Nolan’s biggest mis-step? Add your vote to the poll below.

I want to see de Director´s cut with the 4 hours of footage made by Nolan
The movie have plot holes that can be explained by the 1,20 extra house
It was overwritten and messy. On a second viewing, the first half of the film is a bore.
So a director takes a beloved character and makes him weak and just has him reacting to what other do, not taking control and making a difference.
After Batman puts on the new suit in TDK he is a weak character. He disappears for 8 years? And Bane is a GREAT character and Nolan just dropped the ball. Once inception came out I knew that TDKR was going to be flat.
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN SUCKS!!!! HE IS NOT WORTHY OF ADAPTING COMIC-BOOK-BASED CHARACTERS AND STORYLINES!!!!
Yeah, the movie was real flat and weak. It is the best movie so far this year, and the complainers have just been repeating critics complaints. All of the negative comments say it has plotholes but never expand on it. They just repeat that line from a reviewer. If you say it has plotholes, then give your example or you lose credibility. And to the previous commentor, are you slow? Batman disappeared for 8 years because he was blamed for those murders. Not hard to follow. One of the best scenes in the movie is when batman shows up again. The batman and bane’s first fight will be talked about for years, what’s so funny is people nitpick the he’ll out of this movie but then say oh I loved the avengers. Hahaha, that childrens contained no plot whatsoever and had aliens attacking at the end but it had a higher rotten score. Gimme a break!
You should likewise expand on the points you raise. You raise points but you don’t back them up, writing as if they’re indisputable facts.
Loved the film, it was great. Nolan is a great director and I love what he has done with The Dark Knight Rises. Obviously, people will nitpick at parts they didn’t like, some people are just like that, but overall, I thought he done a great job. You can’t just end a film, you have to keep the people wondering what if, that’s one of many things that makes Nolan’s films great, look at Inception, it was left on the biggest cliffhanger I’ve ever seen.
POT HOLE…..HOW DID BRUCE GET FROM INDIA (THE PRISON HOLE)TO GOTHAM? NO PASSPORT, NO MONEY PLUS ALL THE TUNNELS AND BRIDGES WERE DESTROYED OR BLOCKED…..RIDDLE ME THAT
Who said the prison was in India? It was filmed in India, but the film location may have been Mexico.
“You could drop this guy off at the Arctic Circle wearing a pair of bikini underwear, without his toothbrush, and tomorrow afternoon he’s going to show up at your pool side with a million dollar smile and fist full of pesos. This guy’s a professional, you got me?”
Story was just to big to be contained in one movie so many big plots were treated too short. Bane too.
Action sequences were also pretty bad. I have to say the movie was pretty bad on the spectacle side but I still love it.
I have to weigh in on this: http://gothamstuff.tumblr.com/post/28483720791/the-dark-knight-rises-this-is-why-we-cant-have
bane did not die, this was a chest protector!
