The Godfather Returns?

8421280.jpgWell it was bound to happen eventually. According to Moviehole, production is stepping up on a possible new installment to The Godfather franchise. The installment in question is based on the very succesful 2004 Mark Winegardner novel The Godfather Returns, set in between the events of The Godfather Parts I and II. The rights to film the book were nabbed a couple of months back along with it's follow up novel The Godfather's Revenge which is set to be published before the end of the year. The "insider" told Moviehole... €œReturns and Revenge films seem to have been ramped up to active -development status €“ meaning they€™ll probably get underway within the next year€€œThey€™ll re-cast naturally..... I guess you€™ll notice it about as much as Brandon Routh stepping in for Christopher Reeve in Superman €“ a film that was supposedly set between Superman II and Superman III. Difference being here of course, all the characters will probably be recast" Of course we should always be wary when a story is broke from an apparent "studio insider" but Paramount must have plans to bring the movie to the screen eventually otherwise what was the point in paying for the film rights? Good idea... Bad idea? It's pretty much irrevelant. This IS going to happen at sometime I can asure you, Paramount are not going to let this money making opportunity go to waste. source - moviehole
