18. The A Bug's Life Cameo

Early on in the film as Arlo and his father are travelling through the forest, there's a distinctive caterpillar on a branch in the foreground. The colouring (aside from the blue face) is is almost identical to Heimlich the hilarious bumbling caterpillar from A Bug's Life. If it is a conscious decision, the fact that the film effectively recreates his cameo in Toy Story 2 is also some next level Easter Egging...
On the same sort of scale (in terms of both screen time and creatures), the water sequence that sees Arlo emerge from a watering hole covered in leaches feels like a conscious nod to Stand By Me. After all, the two films are united by their shared ideas about cross country journeys that also conquer personal obstacles.
