The Hurt Locker gets a new cast

Kathryn Bigelow's Iraqi drama The Hurt Locker has got a completely new cast to what was first reported back in March. Back then we said that Charlize Theron, Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes and Willem Dafoe were top lining the cast. Fast forward to July 2007 and The Hollywood Reporter now tell us that Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty are the lead players in the movie. Not quite the names above are they, however the trade do mention that Ralph Fiennes will appear in this film after all in a small cameo along with Guy Pearce.

Written by Mark Boal and inspired by true events and recently declassified information, "Locker" follows an elite Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team in present-day Baghdad that fights an onslaught of bombs and snipers. Renner will play the leader of the team, while Mackie and Geraghty are members of it. Fiennes is a mercenary; Pearce is another member.
Looks like they have drew the short straw with the cast, although Jeremy Renner really impressed the hell out of me in 28 Weeks Later. The film begins shooting next week in Kuwait and it's Bigelow's first feature film since K-19: The Windowmaker five years ago.
