The Predator Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

2. Trevante Rhodes

The Predator Trevante Rhodes
Fox

Trevante Rhodes - who was exceptional in Moonlight and will have a hell of a career going on from here - is the best thing about The Predator by a country mile. Sure, he feels like he's been dropped in from another film entirely and perhaps even an entirely different ERA of film (he wouldn't be out of place in the original Predator actually), but he's a joy to watch.

There might be some complaints about how heavily he smokes (if it wasn't 2018, you'd suspect some big tobacco firm was paying a premium for him to advertise, given how many times he lights up), but he seems to be the only one in the entire film who's in on the joke.

And it wouldn't be unfair to say that a Predator film that had HIM as the real star would have been a superior thing all round. It's genuinely exciting to wonder what he'll do next.
