The truth is STILL out there: X-FILES 3 on the way?

Fox Mulder himself David Duchovny has confirmed - in conversation with France's TV Mag.com - that a third addition to the thus-far pretty abysmal X-Files film franchise is currently being scripted:

It is being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, that the authors strayed too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc.

No need to get in a fuss just yet over just why Fox would option a third when X-Files: Fight The Future and X-Files: I Want To Believe (by the way, the two most awful movie subtitles I have ever come across) sucked so monumentally. And, at this stage, the studio has made no decision on whether to option the threequel at all, but if there's a script, maybe someone knows something that this writer's cynical mind cannot yet fathom...
