The Walking Dead Spin-Off Pilot Is In The Can (But Has Not Gone To Series)

Not yet, anyway.

Though I'm sure it's very likely to happen, AMC have yet to give the go ahead to their Walking Dead spin-off series. According to producer Gale Ann Hurd, speaking to Loyola Marymount University and quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot episode is now complete. Now they have to wait for AMC to give them an order before they can move ahead and write, crew-up, cast and shoot more episodes. At least for now the show is called Fear the Walking Dead and it's a kind of prequel, taking place in the time that Rick Grimes was unconscious in hospital. It's about the rise of the walkers, and how American - or to be properly specific, LA county - citizens react to the oncoming zombie plague. There's apparently some clever jiggery pokery going on where we'll see one of the characters of Fear the Walking Dead at some point in the current series of the main show. This will almost certainly, of course, reveal their fate in the spin-off; depending on whether they're alive or dead, we know where Fear is taking them. The only workaround I can think of is if they appear on video or some such. Worst case scenario for Fear the Walking Dead, I think, is that AMC recast or somehow adjust. They're not going to put a bullet in its head, that' for sure. We'll be sure to let you know when the official decision comes.
