The Week Of Review: 1 Up & 8 Downs

8. It's Two Hours Long

The Week Of Chris Rock Adam Sandler Long
Netflix

The most ridiculous thing about this entire movie is its punishing 116 minute runtime. While it might not seem so bad compared to the oppressive length of Sandler's previous Netflix movie Sandy Wexler - which bafflingly ran a whole 131 minutes - by any measure it's far longer than any low-effort Sandler comedy ever needs to be.

Were The Week Of an 85-minute romp that gets in, gets out and doesn't stick around, it certainly would've been much easier to stomach, but veering dangerously close to the length of most superhero movies here, it can't help but feel like an exhausting, even stamina-draining slog.

It's not just that the film is filled with self-indulgent gags that drag on forever, but that the plot - or what passes for a plot here - goes around in circles, and the wedding festivities don't even kick off until deep into the third act, by which point you may well have lost the will to continue.
