Thor: The Dark World - 6 Hidden Influences From Game Of Thrones

Thor The Dark World 39679 Thor: The Dark World has finally arrived stateside and being the Marvel Film aficionado I am, naturally it jumped to the top of my own must-watch list immediately. Very briefly, it€™s worth noting that I actually really enjoyed the film and came away feeling that it was one of the strongest outings ever for Marvel Studios. If nothing else, it is certainly the highlight of Phase 2 thus far in the ongoing Marvel cinematic universe. I€™m also a fairly rabid fan of Game of Thrones too; HBO€™s medieval fantasy series based on the critically acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R Martin. And if you didn€™t know, Thor: The Dark World was directed by Alan Taylor, a familiar name within the Game of Thrones TV adaptation. Alan Taylor has directed multiple episodes from the first 2 seasons and has additionally produced a number of episodes. For Marvel Studios, Alan Taylor seemed like a solid choice as the subject material between the two franchises isn€™t as segregated as you would think. Sure, Thor deals with Norse Gods and some tie-ins to the grander blueprints of Marvel€™s cinematic universe but it€™s all wrapped up in a stylized medieval fantasy setting that Alan Taylor is clearly comfortable working with. It€™s an area of storytelling he simply excels at and Marvel as usual had their eyes peeled, swooped in, and bagged another fantastic director for their ambitious and seemingly never ending undertaking. Naturally, with a prolific Game of Thrones figure working on a similar project, you€™re going to notice trademarks and possible references peppered throughout the experience. Alan Taylor himself even confirmed that his previous portfolio of work on the hit TV show greatly aided his direction and self-confidence in the project, and for us fans of both Marvel and Game of Thrones it€™s clearly evident. So without further babbling and rambling from myself, here are 6 little plot points that showcase the similarities between Thor: The Dark World and Game of Thrones. Massive spoilers for Thor: The Dark World are present while Game of Thrones viewers have nothing to fear.
