After the disappointing disjointedness of Thor: The Dark World, the pressure is on for Marvel Studios to correct the course of its Asgardian film franchise and make Thor: Ragnarok far better than its dismal predecessor. The last thing anyone one wants to see is a repeat of that half-arsed Malekith origin story.
Thankfully, early signs seem to be promising for Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel has ditched Alan Taylor in favour of What We Do In The Shadows writer-director and sometime Flight Of The Conchords scripter Taika Waititi. Hes promised to inject more comedy, and quickly recruited Mark Ruffalos Hulk for the film. Both sound like good ideas on paper. Theres still a lot that the general public dont know about the God of Thunder's next cinematic outing, though, including these ten big questions
10. How Is The Hulk Going To Fit In?
Hulk sideways-punching Thor out of shot in Joss Whedons The Avengers was one of the true highlights of the MCUs first massive crossover. With this hilarious moment still fresh in the memory, most fans seem pretty happy with the news that Mark Ruffalos Hulk will co-star alongside Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok. Exactly how hell fit in remains a mystery, though. At the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Hulk flew off in a commandeered Quinjet and it looks like he wont be in Captain America: Civil War or any other Marvel movies before turning up in Thor: Ragnarok. Could it be that he took the Quinjet or another vehicle and disappeared off to space to protect mankind from his destructive tendencies? Such a chain of events could lead to the MCUs equivalent to the Planet Hulk comics, which saw Hulk banished from Earth and battling for his freedom on a gladiatorial planet called Sakaar. Here, powerful beings duked it out in a Roman-esque coliseum under the watchful eye of a despot, whom the Hulk eventually brought down with help from some new friends. Perhaps Thor bumps into Hulk on Sakaar, in the movie, resulting in the two Avengers scarpering off together and enabling the universal road movie style that Ruffalo has promised in the press. If this is the case, Marvel Studios could sneak in Planet Hulk despite the fact that they cant currently produce a standalone Hulk movie (due to a distribution issue with Universal). Sounds smart.
