Top 10 Rising British Directors

10. Eran Creevy

url-3 Creevy started out in film by finding his way onto Matthew Vaughn's set of Layer Cake as a runner. After assisting on various other films, including Woody Allen's Scoop, filming commercials for companies such as Nike and Carlsberg, and directing music videos for Take That, he broke out with his debut feature, the electrifying Shifty. When talk arises of a British crime film, people automatically think of Guy Ritchie and his countless imitators, but Shifty was no Snatch rip off. It was a dark, edgy tale of 24 hours in the life of a drug dealer. It's a phenomenal work that has been little seen, which is unfortunate because it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as The Long Good Friday, Gangster No.1 and Get Carter. It is a shrewd, confident picture by a man destined for big things. His follow-up film, Welcome to the Punch, is out in a few weeks and the James McAvoy and Mark Strong starring crime thriller looks set to be a hit, if the pedigree and trailers are to go by. Creevy's ability to stretch a budget whilst maintaining a strong visual sense are the attributes that are going to take him straight to the top.
