Twilight Saga Reboot Plans Denied By Lionsgate

"We will happily support Stephenie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change."

Lionsgate have denied reports that emerged over the weekend claiming they were looking to reboot the "Twilight" saga. The studio, who owns "Twilight" rights holders Summit Entertainment, are set to release the fifth and final installment in the uber popular franchise on November 16th with "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II" but despite having no more books to adapt for future movies, Lionsgate claim there are currently no plans for a retcon of the film series, similar to Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man". Co-Chairman Rob Friedman told Deadline when he was asked about the rumour;
€We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephenie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change."
Bloody Disgusting had originated the rumour, claiming;
"they€™re already discussing it internally. It will happen... It is still undecided exactly what the future of the franchise will be, though. It could be a direct remake... but then again it could also be a spinoff or maybe even a one-off sequel."
Even before Deadline got the official denial from Lionsgate, Bloody Disgusting predicted that the studio would;
"deny it, right here, right now. We'll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it's true."
However that is also an easy thing to say when breaking a controversial rumour and doesn't tell us either way if the story is true or not? Personally, and remember this is just MY opinion, the "Twilight" saga is way too valuable to Lionsgate and Summit for them to just to let it die. The movies to date have made over $2 billion and the profits are keeping so many people in jobs right now that follow-ups will happen. I imagine there will be more movies in some form, probably not a reboot in the sense that the whole franchise is getting retconned, but a spin-off focusing on specific characters or some way of continuing the saga beyond what Stephenie Meyer has written seems likely. The Lionsgate statement does seem to indicate that Stephenie Meyer will ultimately have the final say on what happens but usually money talks sooner or later. Twilight fans: Would you want to see a reboot of the Twilight franchise with new actors filling in for Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson? Or a spin-off or some kind of sequel set in the same universe? Please do comment and let us know below...
