U.K. exclusive stills from SKYLINE!

Opening on Nov. 12th in both the U.K. and the U.S - the visual effects extravaganza 'Skyline' (basically 'Cloverfield' meets 'Independence Day') has earned a fair amount of buzz already this summer, and it's now nicely poised to become the 'District 9' hit of 2010. The reason for the web-chatter of course is the eye candy of high quality special effects, mixed with set pieces bigger than any film has previously imagined. Whether the film itself realises this potential, we are a few weeks from finding out. The movie comes from, naturally, special effect experts turned directors Greg and Colin Strause, whose debut studio affair 'Alien vs. Predator: Requiem' had a similar sugar-toothed trailer, only for the end result to have about as much substance as a conversation with Paris Hilton. Almost the definition of an Independent film, 'Skyline' was financed by the directors at their own effects company and much of the film was shot at their condo in L.A. The movie looks highly ambitious but I truly hope that reviewers are kind on the film, even if all the pieces don't fit exactly in the right place. This isn't a Hollywood film, it's clearly a movie made by passionate people outside of the system. It won't be perfect, but we should never undermine a film that shoots for the stars and doesn't quite reach it. I know that's sounds pre-emptive but you kinda get a feeling how the reaction will go. We've been here before. Here's the latest trailer for the movie again, and the three images above are U.K. exclusive stills for Obsessed With Film. Let's hope the end product is as effective; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mns8EsSHMmI
