Upgrade Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

An instant cult classic.

The new sci-fi thriller from Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell finally lands in UK cinemas this weekend, and if you're in the market for a deliciously vicious little genre film with cult potential written all over it, look no further than Upgrade.

Though it's been only modestly successful at the box office - and likely not enough to warrant a sequel, sadly - this is without question one of the most entertaining and ambitious low-budget thrillers of the year.

Making the most of its gonzo premise, committed lead actor and limited resources, Upgrade is exactly the sort of movie that deserves passionate support from audiences, and is sure to build up quite the following over the next few years.

It's pretty much destined to end up on every "overlooked films of 2018" list you'll read a few months from now, though do yourself a favour and soak in its dizzying frenetic, ultra-violent thrills for yourself this weekend. You probably won't regret it...
