What with the arrival of the first Deadpool 2 trailer and now the release of Venom's debut teaser, it feels a lot like we're well into the era of proper, grown-up comic book movies. And for anyone who grew up as Spawn came out as a sort of premature herald of that exciting era would tell you, it's been a bloody long time coming.

Though it's likely that the Venom movie will have its immediate detractors - not least those who believe there's no way it could work outside of and in parallel to the MCU - the fact that Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed lead the cast and Ruben Fleischer is directing (a more intriguing than assuring development) should prick up a lot of interested ears.

So far, we've had to rely on scraps of information, one picture of Tom Hardy looking like Tom Hardy and speculation (including hints of Spider-Man appearing and Carnage among others), but finally we've got something of substance to whip up some more hype. And it's bound to get a lot of attention, one way or another.
