Barry Levinson’s comedy about a desperate movie producer (Robert De Niro) who trys to keep both his dignity and his soul amidst the problems of Hollywood politics and the breakup of his second marriage will be released on October 2nd (U.S. – no U.K. date yet) via Magnolia Pictures.
The movie has a great supporting cast with Bruce Willis (listed as himself like he did in Ocean’s Twelve), Stanley Tucci, Catherine Keener, John Turturro and Kristen Stewart all on board. Interestingly the film is also said to be set to the soundtrack of the likes of Morricone, Nina Simone and Dire Straits, among others!
I’ve been vocal about my dislike for most of Levinson’s output in the last 10 years (which is a massive long time to turn people off!) but there was a time with Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam and Sleepers he was churning out some really top notch material.
And look at the projects on his upcoming schedule. An adaptation of Bill Bryson’s A WALK IN THE WOODS and the Tom Hanks/Julianne Moore drama western BOONE’S LICK – this is not the same kind of lame and cruise control material he gave us with the “comedies” (I say it like that as they weren’t funny) Envy and Man of the Year.
From what I’ve heard this was one of the delights of Sundance. If you are a movie geek, you know your already going to see this because the plot and concept of seeing De Niro as a troubled movie executive is just too good to ignore. Hope we get to see a trailer soon!

This sounds like a really good project that’ll give De Niro something to get his inicisive acting gnashers into. Unfortunately, the presence of Dire Straits on the soundtrack immediatly taints the movie. It’s going to take good reviews to convince me to force my ears to endure that for even a few fleeting seconds…
If you’ve been wondering not just WHY Hollywood’s been decades
stale –but WHY even your ‘fave’ stars (Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks etc.)
have been looking so creepy-constipated of late -you might consider
that they’re dealing with the dawning revelation that they and their
industry have not only been playing enabler fantasies to our techno-circle jerk culture and its legacy of 45 million ‘convenient’ exterminations of the unborn —BUT ALSO that they’re ALLLL underwritten by funds and vast market favors from the most awesomely genocidal regime in history —across the Pacific.
AND GUESS WHAT? —now the rest of America is too!
