What Next For The MCU After Avengers: Endgame?

9. Introduce New Characters

With such a huge roster of characters at their disposal (a number that has only grown following Disney's acquisition of Fox), Marvel Studios have never been shy about introducing new superheroes into their constantly-expanding universe.

The Infinity Saga may have been largely built around the original team of core Avengers, but the MCU has never had any qualms with introducing lesser-known characters into their mythology. For a long time Guardians of the Galaxy was seen as a massive gamble on the studio's part, but based on the strength of the final product these lower-tier comic book characters instantly became fan favorites with cinema audiences around the world.

Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel were hardly household names to those not familiar with their comic books but people flocked to the theater to see them nonetheless, with the latter two movies in particular dominating popular culture and earning over a billion dollars apiece at the box office.

Marvel Studios have been keeping their cards closer to the chest than usual in regards to their future slate of non-sequel projects, but we do know that Chloe Zao has been hired to direct The Eternals with an exciting cast that reportedly includes Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden and Keanu Reeves.

Shang-Chi has also been fast-tracked into active development with Destin Daniel Cretton behind the camera, while rumors have pegged Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and Power Pack as other properties with cinematic potential.

It would be far too easy for Marvel Studios to rest on their laurels and constantly churn out sequels featuring their most recognizable characters without bringing anything new to the table, and doing so would only add to the creative malaise that already surrounds the vast majority of modern studio blockbusters.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
