What Your Favourite Star Trek Movie Says About You

Star Trek: Nemesis

Nemesis 381

After the letdown that was Insurrection, the producers attempted to put the franchise back on track by doing what every producer has done when the previous Star Trek film has been a critical flop; try to recreate 'The Wrath Of Khan.' Nemesis was much darker than Insurrection, no cuddly Ba€™Ku villagers here.

The story follows Shinzon who started life as a Romulan created clone of Picard. Shinzon spent his entire childhood in a forced labour camp after the plan to replace Picard was abandoned. He got more bitter as he got older and eventually goes looking for revenge. He also needs Picard€™s blood for a transfusion to stop his cells from dying and this leads him to confront Picard. Predictably, this moves on to Shinzon wanting to take out the Federation and it€™s up to Picard to stop him.

Mind rape, Data€™s death and an extended space battle; this darker turn should have been brilliant. However, it is the only Star Trek movie to flop at the box office and it killed the TNG as a movie franchise. A planned finale with the crew was planned as the 11th movie, but that was cancelled after this film failed to make the numbers. Director Stuart Baird also had no knowledge of Star Trek and rubbed most of the cast the wrong way, the result was lackluster performances in a lackluster movie.

What It Says About You:

This is what you were waiting for, the Next Generation remake of The Wrath Of Khan. As much as you like the original, the TNG crew was always your favourite and you always wanted to see how they would do in a similar situation.

It has all the key elements; a charismatic villain, two ships, two equals trying to outdo each other, a massive space fight and one of the main character dies. There are themes about dying and rebirth; Nemesis even has its own version of the €˜€™remember€™€™ moment between Spock and McCoy, but in this film Data downloads all his memories into B4, the conveniently found younger brother/Android of Data.

But because you always preferred this crew, this movie does all those things better than Wrath Of Khan. Even Data€™s death is more upsetting. You fought back the tears and screams of anguish when Data said €˜€™goodbye€™€™ to Picard before being blown to bits on Shinzon€™s ship.

People who say it is a rubbish movie just don€™t get it. They complained the last film was too much like an episode and they complain that this movie has too much action and it proves that they don't know what they are talking about,. In you opinion, even if the crew didn't get a proper finale movie, Nemesis is a fine way for TNG to bow out with.

Favorite Moment In The Film:
