What Your Favourite Star Trek Movie Says About You

Star Trek: First Contact

Picard And Data Hunt Borg

With the TNG crew now the primary focus of the movies, the path was clear to exploit everything the Next Generation universe had to offer. And when deciding on who should be the villains in the 8th movie of the franchise, there was only one that everyone wanted to see, The Borg.

The Borg were back in a much more darker form in First Contact, none of the nice and friendly €˜€™Hugh€ Borgs seen in episodes €˜€™I Borg€™€™ and €˜€™Decent.€™€™ These Borg were similar to how we originally saw them. All conquering and an unstoppable force, but as this is the movies, there was a bit more money to make them more scary and zombie like.

After a surprise attack on Earth, the Enterprise follows The Borg back in time to stop them from assimilating the Earth in the past. There they meet the Borg Queen, conduct the first warp speed test with Zephram Cochrane and make €˜€™First Contact€™€™ with the Vulcans.

More action packed than Generations, a tighter script, elements of horror and great villain; First Contact is regarded as the highlight of the TNG movie series.

What It Says About You:

First Contact is proof that TNG can work on the cinema screen. It has action, suspense, humour and horror. Anyone who says that Star Trek cant do €˜€™dark,€™€™ and that the Next Generation was too friendly, they need to watch the poor ensigns get assimilated in this movie. You love the crew do ''Aliens'' on the Enterprise and speaking of the Enterprise, the newly introduced NCC-1701E is one of the sexiest ships you have ever seen. The new uniforms, the new bridge, the lovely shades of grey; this is your Dark Knight of the Star Trek world. In fact, if the Joker was to go up against the Borg, he would have more than a few scars on his face to be proud about.

You love the horror element brought to the film by the Borg, this is how the No1. enemy in TNG should be remembered. It annoys that Star Trek: Voyager would go on to ruin everything that was so good about the Borg and the newly introduced Queen. And people might complain that the TNG crew are not suited for action, but they need to have another look at how awesome Picard looks firing a machine gun...in slow motion.

Great action, great story and an awesome fight scene at the beginning, this is the film you have no problem showing to your non-trekkie friends.
