Wonder Woman 2 may have found its villain, with Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig reportedly set to take on the role of Cheetah in the highly-anticipated sequel.

Deadline broke the news, since further confirmed by Variety, that Wiig is in talks with Warner Bros and DC about the part. This comes after it was reported earlier in the week that Emma Stone turned down the role.

It's clear they want someone with a comedic bent then, but in fairness Wiig has shown she's got the dramatic chops too - just look at her excellent performance in The Skeleton Twins. It'll be more interesting, though, to see how she handles playing not just a villain, but the movie's action sequences as well.

The Cheetah we see in the movie is expected to be the Barbara Ann Minerva iteration, a British anthropologist who becomes Cheetah after mistakenly taking part in an ancient ritual.

Wonder Woman 2, which will once again be directed by Patty Jenkins, is set to take place in the 1980s against the backdrop of the Cold War. It's currently scheduled for release on 1 November, 2019.
