9. Editing
Marc Forster's Quantum of Solace received similar flak for its poor editing, and World War Z sadly is perhaps even worse. Right from the opening set-piece, in which Brad Pitt's Gerry Lane is driving a car through the city, trying to escape the zombie outbreak, the editing makes it difficult to make out what's going on; many shots last less than a second, so ascertaining spatial sense of the scenario proves incredibly difficult. It becomes clear soon enough as well that because of the PG-13 rating - which I'll get to later - Forster is fast to cut frantically between violent images so that the gory dismemberment is
implied rather than actually shown. Above all else, this approach to the aesthetic of the film is simply headache-inducing and irritating.
