Writer found for Smith/Lawrence I AM LEGEND prequel

Variety have today confirmed what director Francis Lawrence told us back in July, that an I AM LEGEND prequel is in development over at Warner Bros. and that both he and star Will Smith are expected to return for a second outing. The studio have hired D.B. Weiss (currently adapting Neil Strauss' pick-up novel THE GAME) to come up with a screenplay based on a blueprint set out by Lawrence, Smith and the first movie's writer Akiva Goldsman and producer James Lassiter. The movie will chronicle the final days of humanity in New York as a deadly plague begins spreading across the world which as we know, eventually leave Smith to survive for three years as "the last man alive". It's truly a case of LOGICAL STORY DEVELOPMENT (not that there should be a sequel, I just mean if there is... it should go forward like 28 WEEKS LATER did) being sacrificed for the sake of bringing back it's lead mega-star.
