Next year, we hit peak superhero season.

Despite Fox's weird absence from CinemaCon earlier this year, the studio still has big - and immediate - plans for the X-Men movie universe in 2018, and it's all starting to take shape.

They've just announced that New Mutants will hit screens on April 13th, Deadpool 2 will land on June 1st and X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be unveiled on November 2nd. That means we've got a bumper year coming with Marvel already bringing out Black Panther, Infinity War and Ant-Man And The Wasp, Sony releasing the Miles Morales animated Spider-Man on December 21st Venom on October 5th and DC expected to have Aquaman on December 21st as the second DCEU film of the year.

Dark Phoenix has been rumoured for some time - particularly as Apocalypse sets it up so blatantly - while New Mutants has been on the verge of firm production for even longer. Hopefully we will start to hear more casting news on both fronts, with Deadpool 2 already putting its cast together nicely.

Quite what this all means for the supposed release of Channing Tatum's Gambit remains to be seen: it's surely only a matter of time before that's shelved completely and restarted in a couple of years?
