Petra came to be known as a terrakinetic, or someone with the psychic power to manipulate earthen substances, which doesnt sound like much until you consider that the talent turns our entire planet into a weapons cache. As well as using dirt, rock and clay to form offensive weapons, shields, shelters and traps, Petra can also generate enough force to turn carbon into diamond, and alter the composition of raw minerals. Like so many superheroes, becoming acquainted with her powers was painful. When the need to defend herself from a predatory foster parent in Central Park saw her unconsciously bury him knee deep in solid ground, Petra not only learned how shed manage to survive the terrible rockslide which killed the other members of her biological family, but begged the question of whether she'd brought about their demise. Petras tragic backstory and unusual talents provide the basis for intra- and interpersonal conflict, fresh battle sequences and strategic intriguesthe cornerstones of any nutritious superhero film. And a warm, sensuous blonde is the perfect antagonist to Emma Frost's cold, mercenary delinquency.
